Pineville is an enclave of quiet neighborhoods just minutes from the center of Charlotte along the border of North and South Carolina. This suburban town is a desirable area for city commuters and those searching for affordable living.

Real Estate

Pineville real estate features quaint bungalows and historic homes in a small-town setting with just under 10,000 residents. Due to its central location and quiet, affordable neighborhoods, Pineville has steadily attracted new residents, with significant growth since 2000. The cost of living in Pineville is less than the national average, and the median home price is 14 percent lower than the national average.

Lifestyle and Attractions

The small town charm of Pineville is complemented by the desirable amenities of a larger city. The development of I-485 helped Pineville become the largest shopping district in the state with Carolina Place Mall, multiple strip malls, two open-air shopping centers, and several freestanding retailers. A significant number of people in Pineville work in professional fields such as finance and office administration. Pineville hosts a number of community events and festivals each year, including Crops and Shops Festival, Fall Festival, Rockin’ & Reelin’, and a weekly farmers’ market during the summer.

As the birthplace of the 11th president of the United States, James Polk, Pineville is home to the President James K. Polk State Historic Site. There are plenty of areas for outdoor recreation at neighborhood parks, including Jack Hughes Park with a multi-purpose field, softball fields, a baseball stadium, playground, picnic shelters, a walking trail, and more. Pineville hosts a number of cultural centers, such as the Civic & Cultural Arts Center of Pineville, and outdoor recreation centers, such as Adventure Landing and the Belle Johnston Community Center. Pineville’s proximity to the light rail makes for quick and inexpensive commuting in and out of Uptown Charlotte, for work, sporting events, or a night out on the town.

Nearby Schools and Higher Education

Pineville hosts four public schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, including Pineville Elementary School, Quail Hollow Middle School and South Mecklenburg High School. Pineville is surrounded by 55 private schools within the Charlotte vicinity, including South Charlotte Baptist Academy nearby. Pineville contains no institutions of higher learning, but several colleges and universities are within reach, including DeVry University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and many more.

History

Pineville was once a tiny depot town called “Morrow’s Turnout,” serving as a place where livestock could be turned out to the rolling pastures surrounding the station. By the time Pineville was incorporated in 1873, the town had a bustling downtown with shops, a busy cotton mill, and a lively mule market. The town was named Pineville because it was a village known for pine trees. Pineville is the birthplace of James K. Polk, the 11th president of the United States. Today, visitors can see the recreated log cabin and farm where he grew up in on Lancaster Highway.
